Club Disco only sold 2,208? Wow those figures for everything are so low Neon Night and Love and Kisses aside. No wonder no label wanted her

I know! I never really mind low singles sales, as long as the parent album is selling/sells ok, but those numbers aren’t great. I would be surprised if the ‘Get Into You’ album even sold as much as ‘Girl’ did, considering every single released was a flop, bar ‘This Is It’. ‘Club Disco’ was only a digital release in the UK at a time when her music profile/stock had plummeted again, which might explain the low numbers?

The figures were posted on Buzzjack by the same person who provided the sales figure for ‘Girl’, so I feel they are legit. Estimates are only available for sales pre-1994 apparently.

Girl is a great album. I don’t think it was until WDYLN that Dannii was perceived as the artist she’d started to be with Girl.

YWFAM was great, but after that, I don’t feel the material was strong. I didn’t like it.

What a shame things never worked out after Neon Nights! Such momentum and opportunity. I LOVE You Won't Forget About Me, No Romeo, I'm Sorry and I Will Come To You. Don't even know if they were recorded for the shelved 2nd album but I think with the right production they would have made 4 awesome singles from a new album era. They capture that chilled dance vibe she did/does so well. Her versions of Xanadu and More More More fit that mould perfectly and are the the stuff i love the best from her back catalogue. Such a shame.

True, she really did seem to be on a roll with 'Neon Nights'. It should have been the springboard to further success but the folding of London Records put paid to that.

I feel the direction she went in after Neon Nights lacked focus and was a bit all over the place. Obviously the time between recording the initial material and then the stuff after she joined AATW played a big part in that. IMO, while the Neon Nights material was strong and cohesive, the stuff after wasn't. Well, not strong enough to sustain the success she had just achieved.

    I do love 'I'm Sorry' though...that was a missed opportunity I feel.

So, I was reading through this thread again and one on Buzzfeed re sales, and since there aren't any accurate records for pre 1994, we have to guestimate sales for singles pre 'Get Into You', which seems to be the most recent single for which sales have been released.

Going by an article published by the Official UK Charts back in 2017 (https://www.officialcharts.com/chart...vealed__19821/), we can get approximations for the singles without accurate data. They listed Dannii's best selling singles as being as follows:

    1 ALL I WANNA DO 177,980
2 WHO DO YOU LOVE NOW 170,056
    3 THIS IS IT 105,000 – 170,000
    4 I BEGIN TO WONDER 104,989
    5 LOVE & KISSES 62,000-100,000
    6 SUCCESS 62,000-100,000
7 JUMP TO THE BEAT 62,000-100,000
8 PUT THE NEEDLE ON IT 61,318
    9 BABY LOVE ~61,000
    10 EVERYTHING I WANTED 61,058
    11 DON'T WANNA LOSE THIS FEELING 36,976
    12 YOU WON'T FORGET ABOUT 36,411
    13 DISREMEMBRANCE 37,405
    14 THIS IS THE WAY 18,000 – 37,000
15 SHOW YOU THE WAY TO GO 18,000 – 37,000
    16 I DON'T WANNA TAKE THIS PAIN 18,000 – 37,000
    17 PERFECTION 18,285
    18 LOVE'S ON EVERY CORNER 13,000 – 18,000
    19 SO UNDER PRESSURE 13,086
    20 GET INTO YOU 12,840
21 TOUCH ME LIKE THAT 11,391*

    * Based on knowing sales for 'Get Into You" released in 2009, "Touch Me Like That" gets bumped down a spot, since the original list didn't include "Get Into You" for some reason. Anything in bold are approximations based on sales ranking relative to actual, reported sales from 2009 (I doubt there have been any massive increases since then).

    So, grouped according to project:

    [Albums]

    Love & Kisses: 250,000 (estimate)
    Get Into You: ~15-20,000 (estimate)
    Girl: 17,859 (confirmed, up-to-date)
Neon Nights: 101,521 (possibly ~105,000 based on sales of the reissues)
    Club Disco: 2,208
    The Hits & Beyond: 43,563

    [Singles]

    Love & Kisses: 62,000 – 100,000
    $ucce$$: 62,000 – 100,000
    Jump To The Beat: 62,000 – 100,000
    Baby Love: ~61,000
    I Don’t Wanna Take This Pain: 18,000 – 37,000

Show You The Way To Go: 18,000 – 37,000
    Love’s On Every Corner: 13,000 – 18,000
    This Is It: 105,000 - 170,000
    This Is The Way: 18,000 - 37,000
    Get Into You: 12,840

    All I Wanna Do: 177,980
    Everything I Wanted: 61,058
    Disremembrance: 37,405

Who Do You Love Now: 170,056
Put The Needle On It: 61,318
    I Begin To Wonder: 104,989
Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling: 36,976

You Won't Forget About Me: 36,411
    Perfection: 18,285
    So Under Pressure: 13,086
    Touch Me Like That: 11,391

    Stunning Queen
The thing that doesnt say is that no pop music was selling... it was entirely an era of male guitar based pop music and ultimately blur vs oasis.

It goes to say that a few years later she was resigned to Warner.

The album needed another hit before releasing. Album also needed more singable songs. Gina G had big success with Fresh so no reason why Dannii shouldn't have had it with Girl.

Yeah I agree. Album may have failed better if released in early 1998 after Disrememberence. And I love Everything I Wanted but theres strong songs on the album.
